Proposal Information
Describing Your Session
Conference sessions can be led by NBCT’s, school administrators, or any other professional from across the broad spectrum of education.
Your description should make the topic and target audience of your session clear.
Your session process should outline how much time will be spent on each component of your session. Sessions with clear timelines are usually well received by the committee.
If accepted, your session title and description will be published online in the conference program.
Attendees should be able to quickly read your description and clearly understand what they’ll learn in your session.
Avoid using abbreviations, acronyms, or references that attendees might not be familiar with.
Proposal Review and Requirements
All proposals will be reviewed by the TXNBCT Annual Conference Committee using the scoring rubric.
Your proposal should have a brief (100 word max) introduction that describes your session, along with the title of your session. In addition to that, your proposal should also include an outline that will lay out how your session will be presented. This can be done in essay form or in an outline form. You should also allow time for a question and answer portion as well.
The TXNBCT Annual Conference Committee will review all proposals, and we will notify you of its decision on your proposal in December. Please note that not all qualified proposals can be accepted. You’ll have one week to confirm your intent to present at the conference. Before confirming, be sure to secure any funding for your attendance. It’s important to ensure you’ll be able to attend before you commit to presenting.
Session Categories
We are seeking proposals in the categories listed below. Please be sure to review these categories before drafting your session proposal.
Building and Maintaining A Cohort
Sessions in this category examine how a successful cohort is built and shows participants how to maintain that cohort by supporting the candidates, using materials to help candidates understand the process of the NB journey, motivate candidates during their journey, or how a district with no candidates or NBCT’s can still successfully create a cohort and recruit.
Recruiting Teachers to Become Candidates
Sessions in this category show participants how to recruit teachers in their area to become candidates and help districts build a network of NBCT’s in their area.
Any C1 Topic
Sessions in this category explore Component 1 in their certification area. They will provide attendees with help navigating how to study for the exam, a walk through of the constructed responses, understanding the rubrics, and provide study locations and items for additional help. If you select this category, you must be certified in that area. You will be allowed to combine EA and AYA for your content area if the exams are similar. If chosen for this topic, you will be asked to provide what area you certified.
Opportunities for After Certification
Sessions in the category can be delivered by members both inside and outside of the TXNBCT Coalition. They will provide attendees with various opportunities that they will be able to do now that they are certified. This can range from mentoring opportunities, to sitting on certain boards, or even getting involved in organizations outside of TXNBCT.
Session Logistics
All main conference sessions are scheduled to run for 55 minutes. You should plan your session to allow for sufficient Q&A time.
All rooms are equipped with a microphone, LCD projector, and screen. Session rooms are set up with seats and tables.
